Founder’s Day & Church’s Michaelmas Tea

On Founder’s Day we honor Rugby, TN, founder Thomas Hughes (1822-1897). There will be artists and crafters on site at the Visitor Centre, food trucks on site, and other features, including a noon Eastern performance by the Rugby Cornet Band on the porch of Harrow Road Public House. They will perform traditional tunes including America, Take Me Out to the Ballpark, Missud Marches, Shenandoah and Goober Peas. The Band members come from Allardt, Jamestown, Crossville, Fairfield Glade and Cookeville. In addition there will be a photo exhibit “Rugby Revisited” at the Board of Aid to Land Ownership building. For the month of October only, 90-plus images of Rugby, most from 1880 through 1930, will go on display in a free open house running each Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Also you will be able to see what’s brewing at a preview event for Tom Brown’s Coffeehouse, coming soon to Historic Rugby. From 8 until 6 Eastern on Founder’s Day, enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee, snatch up a fresh-baked treat, and get early access to Tom Brown’s grand opening merchandise collection.

As an added treat, Christ Church Episcopal will present its 20th Anniversary Annual Michaelmas Tea at the Friendly House behind Rugby’s church. Times are either Noon or 2:30 p.m. Eastern.
